Today’s World Cup match between India and England went all the way down to the wires keeping millions of viewers on the edge of their seats right till the last ball.
Chasing India’s 338, England needed 2 runs off the final ball of Munaf Patel. They ran for a single and the match ended in a tie with both the teams sharing the points.
Earlier, Ian Bell (69) and captain Andrew Strauss (158) were cruising towards victory but their back-to-back dismissals off a Zaheer Khan over brought the stadium alive again. The last power play taken by England saw a batting collapse as they lost 4 wickets in quicksuccessions.
England skipper Andrew Strauss led from the front scoring a fine century in a crucial match. Ian Bell’s 69 and Kevin Pietersen’s 31 were other notable contributions.
Earlier, batting first, team India piled up 338 riding on a magnificent century by Sachin Tendulkar (120) and half centuries by Gautam Gambhir (51) and Yuvraj Singh (58).
It was clearly the best match of the tournament since the momentum kept swinging like a pendulum from one team to the other. It is fitting that both teams take points from this match and it is the viewer who is the real winner. Great match!
