| Suresh Raina and Ashwin likely to play against WI |
NAGPUR: After the Indian batsmen fell like nine pins against South Africa on Saturday in the World Cup game, the team management has little choice but to now play 'Scissorhands'.
Sources within the team told TOI that at least two players who played in Nagpur are likely to be dropped for the next match against the West Indies, coming up on March 20 in Chennai.
Players under the scanner are Yusuf Pathan, Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel. While Pathan's position is quite shaky, it's an either-or situation between Nehra and Patel. Though it isn't clear exactly which player will go, sources said off-spinner R.Ashwin would be replacing a pacer.
The source added that the team management was also contemplating factoring in Suresh Raina given that the left-handed batsman has the ability to resuscitate the team's batting in the death overs. "The advantage with Raina is that he can bat at any number. He is also the best fielder in the team and can occasionally bowl if required," sources said.
"Ashwin has a strong chance of making the cut. The team will play two spinners and two pacers. The team combination will be finalized in Chennai but discussions to this effect have taken place in the locker room. In hindsight, the VCA pitch in Nagpur was ideal for Ashwin, but the team management went ahead with three seamers," the source added.
It's not clear who will share the new ball with Zaheer Khan.
Meanwhile, the source revealed that the defeat at the hands of South Africa has not unnerved the team. "The match wasn't one-sided, it was close till the last over," remarked the source. "Three hundred or more would have been ideal, but 296 was not that bad. It's not too late to rectify the mistakes. It's a wake-up call," he stressed.
it doesnt matter whoever are going to play.if indian team needs something that is spirit.many of players didn show their winning attitude,they must take inspiration from sachin who doesnt only bat brilliantly but also try to save runs on the field.i saw no aggresion in players like munaf,wheneve he misses ball he always gives dirty smile.if u have no spirit for country u shldnt play.u must gv more than 100% in every game,try to save every single wheather u hv set a target of 400 or 200..one more thing for msd,plz dont experiment with btng order..and try to keep strike as much as possible whnvr u bat with tailndrs.best of luck from 1.25 billion ppl
