India lost number 1 rank in test cricket as they lost third match against England
India lost number one rank in test cricket
It is the first series loss for India since 2008. It is MS Dhoni's first series loss as captain. It has been a rather rude awakening for the Indian side. They have been completely outplayed by a team that made their intentions very clear before the start of the series. England were desperate to reach the top of the rankings and they have done so in style.
The reasons for the loss will be dissected in detail in the coming days. Some of the most telling facts that stand out are that the top five of the Indian line up average less than the bottom five of England! The much vaunted batting line up has failed to come to the party and that has hurt India the most. Injuries haven't helped their cause either with a lot of batsmen playing out of position.
Adding to their woes, England peaked at just the right time. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for India and England have made sure that everything has gone right for themselves. The loss of Tremlett and Trott did not hurt England. Both have been key players in their rise in the last year or so but the replacements gelled in perfectly. Stay tuned as to find out what the captains have to say in the presentation
