Praveen Kumar to miss Australian test tour

Praveen Kumar out for 5-6 weeks:

India suffered a blow ahead of the Australian tour with medium pacer, Praveen Kumar out with a chest injury for upto 6 weeks. The UP pacer has a broken rib and will not take part in the ODI series against the West Indies or the Tests Down Under.

PK was earlier ruled out of the first 3 ODIs against West Indies. This adds to the list of injuries that have plagued Praveen Kumar since the start of the year.

A BCCI release said Praveen "underwent a scan yesterday (28 Nov 2011) evening, and was found to have a fractured rib, as per the report that came through today."

The BCCI added, "He is expected to recover in 5-6 weeks, and has therefore been ruled out of the ODI series against the West Indies, as well as the Test series in Australia that follows. His replacement for the Australia tour will be named on 5 December 2011, when the selectors meet in Ahmedabad to pick the Indian team for the last two ODIs against the West Indies."

Praveen Kumar has been bothered by an elbow injury since January. This forced him to miss the 2011 World Cup. He came back strongly and performed well during the recent tours of West Indies and England. The elbow injury resurfaced during the recent T20I against England at Kolkata and he requested the BCCI for some rest ahead of the Test series at home against the West Indies.

He missed that series as well with injury and was to make a comeback in the ODI series against WI but yet another injury has surfaced now raising questions about his ability to maintain full fitness for a considerable amount of time.

The selectors are yet to name a replacement for the right arm pacer and are expected to do so on Decmeber 5th when the selectors meet in Ahmedabad to pick the team for the last two ODIs against WI.
