The England cricket team has been nominated in the 'World Team of the Year' category at the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards.
Andrew Strauss' Test side retained the Ashes by beating Australia in Australia and then comprehensively white-washed India at home to climb to the top of the Test rankings during the year. In addition, the Twenty20 team, who won the World T20 last year, also sit top of the new standings for the international game's shortest form.
England will, however, face extremely stiff competition from the All Blacks - the New Zealand Rugby World Cup winners, Formula One team Red Bull and Champions League holders Barcelona.
The awards ceremony, which recognises sporting achievement during 2011, will be held at London's Central Hall, Westminster, on February 6 2012.
Laureus world sports academy chairman Edwin Moses said: "This has been a great year for sport and the academy are going to find it extremely difficult to decide who to vote for as winners.
"We have had several massive performances in 2011 both by individuals and teams and that has been reflected in the nominations."
