Virender Sehwag crosses 8000 Test runs

Aus vs Ind, 1st Test, Melbourne day 2

There cannot be a better occasion than a Boxing Day Test to reach an important landmark and end the year on a high and Virender Sehwag did just that when he crossed 8000 runs in Test cricket during the first Test against Australia.

Sehwag, who scored a fine 67 before falling to James Pattinson before tea on Day 2 at Melbourne, crossed the landmark when he went past 20 in the innings.

The opening Test against the Aussies was Sehwag's 160th innings and the opener became the third fastest Indian to go past 8000 runs. Sehwag is also the fifth fastest in the world to reach the mark of 8000. Kumar Sangakkara, who reached the 8000 mark in 152 innings, heads the list.
